Heat Stroke IV Treatment in Cabo — When the Sun Has Already Won
Heat stroke is a true medical emergency — not just severe dehydration. Body temperature climbs above 104°F, the body’s cooling system fails, and the brain, kidneys and heart are at risk. In Cabo’s summer, this can happen on a long beach day, an ATV tour or during outdoor activities. Here’s what to know.
Recognize heat stroke vs heat exhaustion
Heat exhaustion: sweating, headache, dizziness, weakness, normal mental status. Heat stroke: skin hot to touch (often not sweating), confusion, vomiting, fainting, body temperature 104°F+. Heat stroke is a 911 emergency.
What heat stroke IV includes
Aggressive IV cooling fluids (cold normal saline or Ringers), antiemetic for vomiting, sometimes IV magnesium for muscle cramping. We monitor body temperature, vital signs and mental status throughout. Most cases need hospital escalation for ongoing care.
First steps before help arrives
Move the patient to AC or shade. Remove excess clothing. Cool with wet towels, ice packs in armpits and groin, a fan if available. Don’t give oral fluids if confused or vomiting. Call us immediately.
After treatment
Recovery from true heat stroke takes days. Avoid sun and heat for 24–48 hours minimum. We give a written recovery plan.
